Project Overview
Septic inspection turned into a new Aerobic Treatment Unit system
Project Description
Replacing a Homemade Septic System with an Advanced ATU
A thorough septic inspection can uncover hidden problems that impact both performance and compliance. During a detailed inspection for this homeowner, we discovered two major issues: the property’s lateral lines were significantly less than required by regulation, and the septic tank was a homemade construction that did not meet standards.
With such a limited number of lateral lines and a non-compliant tank, the system was failing to operate properly. We coordinated with the local health department for a repair site evaluation, but due to space limitations, it was determined that a conventional system could not be installed on the property.
The next step was to pursue an aerobic treatment unit (ATU), which provides high-quality treatment in a smaller footprint.
Our team:
- Worked with the Division of Water to complete the permitting process for an ATU
- Removed the old, non-compliant tank
- Installed the new ATU system, designed to meet the property’s wastewater needs and all regulatory requirements
With the new ATU in place, the property now has a safe, efficient, and fully compliant septic system. The upgrade resolved the homeowner’s ongoing issues and ensured the system will operate effectively for years to come.
At Hartman Septic, we find solutions for even the most challenging septic situations and bring properties up to code to restore function and peace of mind.
